Tom Bowling AIFD, PFCI is now in his 36th year in the floral industry. He owned his retail flower shop for 20 years, worked in the floral wholesale business, is a consultant for some of the major growers, and is the Director of Education for Syndicate Sales.
Tom holds a Bachelor’s degree from Eastern Kentucky University and a Masters of Education from Miami University of Ohio. Tom is a Past President and member of the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD). He is also a member of Professional Floral Communicators International (PFCI), the Society of American Florists (SAF) and numerous state and allied associations. Tom is the 2016 recipient of the Tommy Bright Award. Tom has been a featured main stage presenter twice for AIFD’s national symposium. His floral career also includes working as assistant floral director for the Academy Awards for 15 years as well as the Pasadena Tournament of Roses parade. Tom was one of the judges for the Tournament of Roses Parade in 2016. He has designed and commentated at numerous local, regional, and national floral events, having designed for presidential inaugurations as well as many society events around the country. He serves on several advisory boards for floral related products and his work is often seen in Flowers& and Flowers and Profits. He is a member of Teleflora’s acclaimed Education Specialist Team.
In my 38-year career, I have explored professional floristry (design, management), floral design teaching in higher education, marketing, product development, judging/evaluating, and publishing. As a high school student, I started a floral business in our family’s home. Since then, I’ve traveled throughout the US and Canada teaching floral design. Exhibitions and demonstrations in Korea and France are some of my career highlights and the journey is not finished.AIFD Award for Distinguished Service to the Floral Industry. I have developed and implemented the first floral design certificate program ever in Cooperative Extension with the Mississippi State University Extension Service. A Laureate Member of the American Institute of Floral Designers, in 2016 I was honored with the Award of Distinguished Service to the Floral Industry. Only 36 professional florists have been bestowed this honor.
